Tile Care & Maintenance
Tile floors are known for their durability, water resistance, and easy maintenance, making them a great choice for both residential and commercial spaces. Regular cleaning involves sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and debris that can scratch the surface, followed by mopping with a mild tile cleaner. Avoid using harsh or abrasive cleaners that could damage the glaze on ceramic and porcelain tiles. Sealing grout lines periodically helps prevent stains and moisture penetration, keeping the floor looking fresh and well-maintained for years.
Spills on tile floors should be cleaned up promptly to prevent staining, especially on grout lines. Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe up the spill, and if needed, follow up with a gentle tile cleaner to remove any residue. Acidic substances like wine or juice should be cleaned quickly to avoid discoloration. Unlike wood or laminate, tile is water-resistant, but prolonged exposure to moisture can still affect grout and subflooring, so it’s best to dry the area thoroughly after cleaning up a spill.
Stains on tile floors can often be removed with a combination of warm water and mild detergent. For tougher stains, baking soda mixed with water to form a paste can be applied to the affected area and gently scrubbed with a soft brush. For stained grout, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar or a commercial grout cleaner can help lift discoloration. Avoid using steel wool or other abrasive pads, as they can scratch the tile’s surface and dull its finish.
