Laminate Care & Maintenance
Laminate floors offer durability and style while being easy to maintain, making them a popular choice for many homes. Regular cleaning involves sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and dust that could cause scratches, followed by using a damp mop with a laminate-specific cleaner. Excessive water should be avoided, as laminate flooring is susceptible to moisture damage. To protect the surface, use felt pads under furniture legs and rugs in high-traffic areas. Keeping humidity levels stable can also prevent warping or gaps between planks over time.
Spills on laminate floors should be wiped up immediately to prevent water from seeping into the seams and causing swelling. Use a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth to blot up the liquid, ensuring the area is fully dry afterward. Avoid using steam cleaners or soaking the floor with water, as laminate is not waterproof. For sticky spills, a laminate-friendly cleaner applied to a cloth can help lift the residue without damaging the surface.
Stains on laminate flooring can usually be removed with gentle cleaning methods. For surface stains like food or drink spills, a mild soap solution applied with a soft cloth should suffice. Tougher stains, such as ink or nail polish, may require a small amount of acetone or rubbing alcohol, but these should be used sparingly to avoid dulling the finish. Never use abrasive scrubbing pads or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the protective layer of the laminate.
